Global Warming Debunked
By Brian | January 7, 2008
I, like every other person on this planet, have been heckled by the Global Warming cause and its host of ill informed minions. This new bandwagon serves as the latest vehicle for hysterical environmentalists to foist there opinions on the masses. The Global Warming advocates were nearly credible until Mr. Gore decided to join their crusade. In an effort to translate his status and fame as the former vice president into some sort of environmental legacy, he was duped into swallowing the “chicken little” pill. Much like he credited himself with inventing the Internet years ago, he has dubbed himself the crusader of truth for this new cause. Mr. Gore recently received a Nobel Prize for his work in the film entitled An Inconvenient Truth where he runs around making extravagant claims and prophesizing doom for the planet. The problem with Mr. Gore’s film isn’t that it was poorly made or even that the point of view was so obviously liberal. The problem was his really poor command of the facts.
This panic has been embraced by industries forced to comply with stricter regulations for emissions and fuel consumption. The automobile industry is the leading example. The car companies are being forced to comply with deadlines for meeting these goals and, in doing so, have translated this language into their marketing. The latest streams of commercials from car companies are all about green. Mileage is being focused on like never before and lower emissions are underscoring the theme. The sad truth is that the car companies have very little choice.
Environmentalists have made numerous doomsday predictions over the past several decades, virtually none of which has come to pass.
The predictions of ozone depletion-induced skin cancer epidemics, ecosystem destruction and others haven’t come true, for which Montreal Protocol proponents congratulate themselves. But in retrospect, the evidence shows that ozone depletion was an exaggerated threat in the first place. The treaty came about over legitimate but overstated concerns that CFCs and other compounds were rising to the stratosphere and destroying ozone molecules. As far as ozone depletion is concerned, the thinning of the ozone layer that occurred throughout the 1980s apparently stopped in the early 1990s, too soon to credit the Montreal Protocol. The scientist were apparently hitching their wagon to data that turned out not to be related. Even then, there was a contingent of scientist that determined that CFCs weren’t the threat they were made out to be, but their opinions were lost in the wash of sensationalism and hysteria.
Once again history is repeating itself and a new wave of panic and sensationalism is sweeping the globe.
The real danger in this global argument isn’t the health of the planet at all. The hazard lies in the host of new laws and regulations born out of the hysteria. Long after the debate is settled we will be saddled with panic induced regulations that will result in nothing more than inconvenience and expense for you and me. We are still feeling the effects of the CFC frenzy as refrigerants for our air conditioners are still being phased out by a schedule determined years ago. These new refrigerants are more expensive and less efficient than the ones they replace and in retrospect don’t save the environment anyway.
A compelling source of information about the falsehoods of Global Warming can be found at The Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine. Unlike the many other sources to the contrary, the information here is presented in a scientific manor that is clear and backed by verifiable research. There are sources sited so you may check the facts for yourself. I found the reading typically slow and a bit dull at times but ultimately informative. I hope that you will take a few minutes of your time to read through this information and add it to your knowledge base. The document is available in several formats, including video if you’re so inclined. Enjoy!
