    Week 7-Potential Rust Problems

    By Ahyl | December 12, 2007

    Here we are again.

This week was slow, but eventful.

There was a few things that I would like to point out and I don’t think I have ever seen this information anywhere.

This is a view of the Trunk. In 1st generation Miatas (NA’s ), The battery is located along the right hand side. I noticed a lot of surface rust here. It wouldn’t be a bad idea for owners to check this area frequently and remove any surface rust they see.

Underneath the hood, on the passenger side, Underneath a plastic shroud, is a ventilation intake screen. I found a lot of debris under here. In the back of this Intake there is a good amount of surface rust. Owners should check here frequently.

I also suggest checking and replacing bad Rubber top moulding and making sure your cabin is weather tight. If not, you can get a lot of water in the floorboards. This is the result.

As you can see the Engine computer cover is almost completly rusted. This also presents a danger to the computer.

Yes, I did remove the Dash. Yes it was totally unneccesary. It started simply enough, I needed to get access to part of the carpet that was stuck under the dash. It went all down hill from there. Remember what happened to the cat when he screwed with curiosity. I’m stuck now. I need to make all that extra work worth the effort.

    Interior Color Change?

Finally, Here is my Son Fabricating a rumble seat.

This is the completed interior strip.

Next week, I promise to begin the Mechanical strip. That should be fun.
