    Supporting Open Source

    By Brian | January 19, 2008

I recently purchased some t shirts and a hoodie from Firefox and Wordpress.  It’s a good way to fortify your wardrobe and it goes to a good cause.  The items are a little mz13030e.jpgpricey, but I feel good about giving my money to the open source community.  I use the tools and would like their development to continue.

Firefox, my browser of choice, has some very nice options to choose from.  I ordered a couple of shirts from them and received a sheet of nifty little decals with my order.   You can find their store here.

Wordpress is the engine I’ve been using to build my website and so I decided to spend a little green there too and buy one of their hoodies.  Good way to support and promote this useful product.  Check out the hoodie here.wp5495nvy-a3.jpg

I’m considering other items from  some of the other providers of open source products.  Ubuntu is the linux distribution I’ve been using to run my experimental projects on and they have a store to support their efforts.

OpenOffice.org is providing a complete and full featured MS office alternative.  I have found some merchandise online, but it was not obvious to me that the proceeds would be benefiting the development of this software.

Many of the providers of open source  and sharware products have products available to promote and support the continued development of these tools.  I would encourage anyone using this type of software to contribute something to support this segment of the software community.  This ingenuity is what makes the Internet work.
